Triple B Clays

Located in El Monte, CA

I recently shot in the 2004 CA State Sporting Clays Championship held at Triple B Clays in El Monte CA. This event was held over 4 days from June 24th thru June 27th.

They had a small gauge, FITASC, 5-stand, 100-bird pre-lim and a 200-bird main event. Even though Triple B is right in the middle of LA, all of the stations are in the woods, however all of the shots are out in the open.

Bruce at Triple B had set a very challenging 14-station course. At some stations we shot 3 pair and at others we shot 4. Some were true pairs, most were report and 1 was following. I found all the targets to be hittable, unfortunately just not by me. If you know Bruce, you know he throws some "tricky" targets. They always look "easy", but they're always doing something right when I want to shoot them. They're curling, dropping, or fading away, you get the idea.

The main event was shot on Saturday & Sunday with 100 birds each day. I was scheduled to shoot in the middle flight on Saturday and on the late flight on Sunday. When I arrived, I was pleased to see everything was running smoothly. 5-man squads, no waiting at the stations and Northview High School Cheerleaders pulling / scoring. What more could you ask for?

Saturday's course was set harder than Sundays. I shot a 73 on Saturday and was pretty happy with that. However on Sunday (the easier course), I managed to shoot a 70. Don't ask me why. Actually, I thought the only easier stations on Sunday were 15 & 16. But I had shot them pretty well on Saturday, so I didn't gain anything.

We had about 210 people shoot in the main. Saturday night's dinner left something to be desired, but all in all it was a great event. Well run, fun targets and a good time was had by all.
